Discover Scuba
Discover Scuba Diving
Saturday, July 3, 2004
Saturday was one of the core days of Dive Fest 2004. This is what it's all about... kids and adults alike had a chance to experience Snorkeling and Scuba Diving in a fun and safe atmosphere. This year these events were hosted in two locations simultaneously. The traditional venue in Castle Comfort, at Anchorage Hotel and Dive Dominica/Castle Comfort Dive Lodge, was complemented by a northern event held at Coconut Beach Hotel in Portsmouth.

Discover Snorkeling

For those just beginning to experience the marine environment snorkeling is a fun way to stay on the surface yet experience the underwater beauty of Dominica. Geared up with mask, snorkel, fins and snorkeling vests, children were instructed about the use of their equipment as well as the marine creatures they would see as they gazed below the surface.

Underwater Reading
Discover Scuba

Discover Scuba was sponsored by Dive Training Magazine this year, who kindly provided support and plenty of reading material for novice divers to browse through over the course of the day.

Children as young as 8 years old were able to try out Scuba in the pool.

Educational

Dive Experiences

The Scuba Experience began with watching a video, followed by a lecture on the equipment and basic rules for scuba diving.

Participants then moved on to the pool where they geared up with scuba equipment and practiced breathing under water and swimming with fins and a scuba tank. Many first-time divers remarked on the unique sound of the bubbles as they took their first-ever breathes under water, exhaling and watching the bubbles disperse.

Beginners Dive

Finally, they were ready. Those who wanted to take it a step further signed up for the Reef Dive and took their new-found skills into the sea where they saw the beauty of Dominica's under water environment.

Upon returning from their dives, many faces glowed with the wonder of what they had just seen.

And once again, Dive Fest achieved one of its goals by exposing young people to a whole new world, a whole new opportunity for life experiences.

Happy Diver!

Treasure Hunt!

The Annual Underwater Treasure Hunt was held at Salisbury Beach, sponsored by Jewellers International.

At the same time, there was a Heineken Beach Party at Connie's Beach Bar in Mero.
Treasure Hunt Participants

Although the weather did not fully cooperate, many divers and snorkelers turned up to search the sandy bottom for rocks which would bring them treasure.

Gearing Up

Gearing up... and, they're off!

And, GO!

The Ultimate Treasure was a DIVE WATCH donated by Jewellers International, one for each member of the Dive Team who scored the greatest number of points by retrieving coloured rocks of varying value.

Second & Third Place Prizes were also awarded.
